Deschamps reportedly turned down Manchester United but remains open to club role
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United approached Didier Deschamps to succeed Michael Carrick, an offer the former France manager reportedly declined. However, journalist Karim Bennani insists that 'DD' is ready to return to management.
Didier Deschamps reportedly declined an initial approach from Manchester United, who are seeking a successor to Michael Carrick at the helm of the Red Devils. According to the Daily Mail, the 1998 World Cup winner preferred to extend his break after fourteen years leading the French national team, with the current instability at the Manchester club also weighing on his decision.
Yet journalist Karim Bennani believes the project is credible and insists that the former manager is not indifferent to this type of challenge. “He is ready, and he wants to take over a club. He attaches great importance to a club’s history. It doesn’t matter if Manchester United is very far away, what will make the difference is whether he will have the means to build his team,” he said.
Bennani also highlighted the historical weight of the Manchester institution and the scale of the task awaiting the next manager. “Manchester United, he knows it’s a big club. Alex Ferguson was there. The big challenge is to restore United’s glory, that’s exceptional. It’s a tremendous challenge,” he said.
Deschamps’ name had already circulated at Real Madrid, in the context of a possible succession to José Mourinho, before rumours shifted to Old Trafford. While awaiting a final decision, the Bayonne native is enjoying time with his family away from the pitch.
