Dembélé misses penalty and deepens PSG's crisis from the spot
Brought on in the 63rd minute against Strasbourg, Ousmane Dembélé missed a penalty that would have allowed PSG to equalize. It is the 11th miss out of 24 attempts for Paris since spring 2025, a failure rate of 46%.
Ousmane Dembélé missed a decisive penalty during PSG’s trip to Strasbourg on Saturday, in the closing match of Ligue 1’s 7th matchday, leaving his team to suffer a 1-0 defeat to Racing Club.
Brought on in the 63rd minute as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the outgoing Ballon d’Or winner did not have to wait long before being at the heart of the action. Less than ten minutes after his introduction, a handball in the Alsatian penalty area, following a shot from Désiré Doué, gave the Parisians the chance to equalize from the spot. Dembélé took the attempt, but his strike did not find the target.
The failure is part of an alarming streak for the capital club. Three days earlier, Ferran Torres had also missed a penalty against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League. Since spring 2025, PSG has been awarded 24 penalties across all competitions and has missed 11, a failure rate of nearly 46%. A statistic that illustrates a fragility that has become systemic in Luis Enrique’s game.
