Josh Hokit’s second-round stoppage of Derrick Lewis at UFC White House in Washington, D.C. on Sunday was overshadowed by derogatory post-fight comments directed at former First Lady Michelle Obama, drawing a swift public rebuke from UFC CEO Dana White.

Speaking with Joe Rogan in the Octagon following his victory, Hokit praised President Donald Trump, gave thanks to God, and continued a verbal feud with former two-division champion Alex Pereira before making the inflammatory remark about Obama. The comments drew immediate and widespread criticism.

White addressed the situation in a statement to Time magazine. “I understand that the Obamas are public figures but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families,” he said. “Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense.”

It remains unclear whether Hokit will face any disciplinary action from the promotion.

The controversy has done little to diminish Hokit’s rapid rise in the heavyweight division. Now 4-0 inside the Octagon, the former NFL hopeful has accumulated four UFC victories in under a year since earning his contract on Dana White’s Contender Series last August. Back-to-back wins over Curtis Blaydes and Lewis have established him as a legitimate top-10 heavyweight contender, and he is expected to receive another high-profile booking in his next appearance.

Hokit has previously attracted attention for a pro wrestling-style persona, but Sunday’s remarks represented a sharper and more politically charged turn — one that, whatever the fallout, has amplified his profile heading into the next phase of his UFC career.
