Chelsea crumbled at Brentford on Friday night, losing 3-0 to extend their winless streak to three matches in the Premier League. After the defeat to Arsenal (2-1) and the draw conceded against Hull City (2-2), Xabi Alonso’s Blues are navigating a worrying early-season crisis.

Without Joao Pedro and Moises Caicedo, the Londoners held firm until half-time before collapsing in the second half. Jaidon Anthony opened the scoring in the 61st minute, Igor Thiago added a second in the 83rd, and Fabio Carvalho sealed the result in added time (90+4).

Brentford, still unbeaten after five matches, climbed provisionally to third place in the table with this victory, behind Arsenal and Manchester City. The Bees have confirmed their solid start to the season.

Chelsea, meanwhile, sit on seven points from five matches. A tally already insufficient to challenge for the title, as the leading teams pull away. Managing absences and defensive solidity will be Xabi Alonso’s priorities ahead of their next fixture.
