Celtic and Rangers have agreed to ban away supporters from all Old Firm fixtures in SPFL competitions for the rest of the 2026/27 season, the two clubs and the Scottish Professional Football League confirmed in a joint statement.

The measure follows serious disruption at the Scottish Cup quarter-final between the sides at Ibrox last season, an incident that has already resulted in both clubs being ordered to play their next home fixture in that competition behind closed doors.

“After further discussions involving both clubs and the SPFL, agreement has been reached that there will be no away supporters for matches involving Rangers and Celtic in SPFL competitions for the remainder of the 2026/27 season,” the statement read.

The arrangement is described as temporary, designed to give all parties the space to act on the findings of an independent review into the disorder. “This temporary arrangement will allow both clubs, together with the SPFL, Police Scotland and other relevant stakeholders, to give proper consideration to the findings and recommendations of the Independent Review, take forward the necessary actions and ensure sufficient time is available to plan future fixtures thoroughly,” the statement added.

The ban covers Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup matches, meaning supporters of whichever club is travelling will be locked out of what is routinely one of the most intense derby fixtures in world football. No timeline has been given for when the restriction might be lifted beyond the current campaign.
