Carrick to stay in charge for Bournemouth despite 4-1 Como thrashing and player unrest
Manchester United have confirmed a pre-match press conference for Friday, signalling Michael Carrick will not be sacked before Sunday's Premier League visit of Bournemouth. The club have won just two games all season and sit 13th in the table.
Manchester United will keep Michael Carrick as manager for Sunday’s Premier League home fixture against Bournemouth, the club confirmed by scheduling a pre-match press conference for Friday afternoon — a clear signal that no sacking is imminent.
The decision comes just days after United were beaten 4-1 by Como in the Champions League on Wednesday, a result Carrick himself described as “not acceptable”, adding that he was “angry” at the performance. The defeat extended United’s winless run to seven matches across all competitions.
United have won only two games all season and currently sit 13th in the Premier League and 20th in the Champions League table, having also been eliminated from the Carabao Cup. The scale of the crisis has prompted unusually public dissent from within the squad.
Captain Bruno Fernandes criticised Carrick’s tactical approach after the Como defeat, taking particular aim at the team’s failure to press. The outburst followed a separate incident the previous week in which defender Lisandro Martinez publicly attacked sporting director Jason Wilcox.
Carrick now faces a punishing run of fixtures before the international break: after Bournemouth, United travel to Chelsea before hosting Roma and Aston Villa.
