Carabao Cup third round draw: ball numbers confirmed as 32 clubs learn their fate
The Carabao Cup third round draw will be split into two parts, with a pre-draw for the eight UEFA clubs at around 7.20pm and the main draw following at approximately 10.30pm. All 32 ball numbers have been confirmed.
The ball numbers for the Carabao Cup third round draw have been confirmed, with 32 clubs — including several still awaiting the outcome of their second round ties — set to discover their opponents across two separate draws on the same evening.
Ball numbers in full
1: AFC Bournemouth, 2: Arsenal, 3: Aston Villa, 4: Crystal Palace, 5: Manchester City, 6: Manchester United, 7: Liverpool, 8: Sunderland, 9: Barnsley, 10: Brentford, 11: Brighton & Hove Albion, 12: Coventry City, 13: Fleetwood Town, 14: Hull City, 15: Ipswich Town, 16: Leeds United, 17: Leyton Orient, 18: Lincoln City, 19: Middlesbrough, 20: Millwall, 21: Norwich City, 22: Peterborough United, 23: Reading, 24: Sheffield United, 25: West Ham United, 26: Wolverhampton Wanderers, 27: Bradford City or Burnley, 28: Newcastle United or West Bromwich Albion, 29: Tottenham Hotspur or Charlton Athletic, 30: Preston North End or Everton, 31: Chelsea or Luton Town, 32: Fulham or AFC Wimbledon.
Why the draw is split
Because the Carabao Cup third round falls during Champions League and Europa League match weeks, the eight clubs competing in those UEFA competitions are placed into a separate pot one and cannot be drawn against each other. A pre-draw involving those sides will take place at approximately 7.20pm to determine home or away status, before the Preston North End vs Everton second round tie.
The main draw, in which all remaining clubs learn their opponents, follows at around 10.30pm once that second round fixture has concluded.
When the ties are played
Third round matches are scheduled to take place across the weeks commencing 7 and 14 September.
