Liverpool and Arsenal have both advanced to the Carabao Cup last 16, setting up a round-four draw to be held after Manchester United’s third-round tie against Brighton at Old Trafford.

Liverpool’s victory over Tottenham and Arsenal’s win against Ipswich confirmed their places in the draw, joining a field that has been whittled down across two midweek rounds of fixtures. Chelsea’s 6-3 demolition of Leeds United was the standout result of the previous midweek, while Everton vs Wolves and Fleetwood vs Sheffield United were both goalless in the earlier 7.45pm kick-offs on the same night as the United-Brighton clash.

Aston Villa also featured on the night, making the short trip to face Coventry City in another all-Premier League tie as the competition entered its business end.

The draw for the round of 16 was scheduled to take place at approximately 10.15pm following the conclusion of the Manchester United vs Brighton match, with the possibility of extra time or penalties pushing that back further. The EFL’s official YouTube channel streamed the draw live.

The Carabao Cup represents the first major domestic honour of the English football season, and with Premier League clubs now fully embedded in the competition from round three onwards, the field is taking on a familiar heavyweight look. United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Aston Villa all had the opportunity to feature in the last-16 draw, underlining the competition’s growing intensity at this stage of the calendar.
