Cannonier faces rising contender Duncan at UFC Fight Night Oklahoma City on July 18
Jared Cannonier, a former UFC middleweight title challenger, has been booked to face unbeaten-streak Englishman Chris Leroy Duncan at UFC Fight Night 281 in Oklahoma City on July 18. Duncan arrives on a four-fight winning streak; Cannonier has lost three of his last four.
Jared Cannonier will return to the octagon against Chris Leroy Duncan at UFC Fight Night 281 on July 18 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The UFC officially confirmed the middleweight matchup after it was first reported on social media by MagicM.
Cannonier (18-9) spent several years as one of the division’s most dangerous contenders, earning a title shot before settling into a gatekeeper role at the top of the rankings. The fighter known as “The Killa Gorilla” has struggled for consistency of late, dropping three of his last four bouts — losses that came against elite opposition in Nassourdine Imavov, Caio Borralho, and Michael Page.
Duncan (14-2) arrives with considerably more momentum. The Englishman is riding a four-fight winning streak, two of which ended via spinning backfist knockout — a finishing sequence that has drawn attention across the division. His most recent defeat came in 2024 against Gregory Rodrigues, who subsequently lost to Cannonier in his very next fight, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the July 18 pairing.
The card will also feature a welterweight contest between Kevin Holland and Jacobe Smith, a bout the UFC confirmed alongside the Cannonier-Duncan announcement. Oklahoma City has hosted UFC events before, and the July card is shaping up with meaningful divisional implications at both middleweight and welterweight.
For Cannonier, a win over a streaking prospect would go some way toward re-establishing his relevance in a crowded 185-pound division. For Duncan, defeating a former title challenger on American soil would represent the most significant result of his career and could push him firmly into contender conversations.
