Bryce Mitchell will face Santiago Luna at UFC Fight Night 278 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas after original opponent Victor Henry withdrew from their bantamweight contest for undisclosed reasons. The UFC confirmed the late change following an initial report from MMA Latinoamerica.

Luna arrives as a significant unknown quantity. The 21-year-old Mexican is undefeated across eight professional bouts, two of which have come inside the Octagon. He stopped Quang Le by first-round knockout and outpointed Angel Pacheco in his UFC appearances to date, and has finished all but one of his victories before the final bell. Trained out of Entram Gym, he enters the fight as a surging prospect with momentum behind him.

Mitchell, known as “Thug Nasty,” made the move down to bantamweight after a difficult run at featherweight. He won his first six UFC bouts at 145 pounds before going 2-3 in his next five, prompting the weight-class switch. His 135-pound debut came at UFC on ABC 9 last July, where he outpointed Said Nurmagomedov to validate the transition. The Sherwood, Arkansas, native now looks to build on that result against one of the division’s more promising young fighters.

The late swap adds an element of unpredictability to the matchup. Mitchell will have had minimal time to adjust his preparation for a fighter with a different style and profile than Henry, while Luna — stepping in on short notice — faces his own challenges in terms of camp readiness. Both men have reason to treat the bout as a statement opportunity in a division where momentum can shift quickly.
