Bournemouth set £100m asking price for Alex Scott as United monitor midfielder's future

Bournemouth have placed a minimum £100 million price tag on midfielder Alex Scott, according to The Athletic, effectively pricing out most potential suitors when the next transfer window opens. Manchester United were among several clubs to register interest in the 23-year-old last summer before ultimately pursuing other midfield targets.

Scott rejected the offer of a new contract at Bournemouth, stoking speculation over his long-term future at the club. Despite that stance, the Cherries refused to entertain bids during the summer window, and their valuation has only hardened since. The Athletic reports that Bournemouth believe Scott could attract an even higher fee than £100 million, even though he will enter the final year of his contract — which runs until 2028 — next summer.

Chelsea tested Bournemouth’s resolve with a £64 million offer during the transfer window, but the bid was swiftly rejected. Scott’s importance to the south-coast club was underlined last season when he played a key role in guiding them to European qualification for the first time.

United overhauled their midfield this summer with the arrivals of Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba, meaning Scott was not pursued further. Manager Michael Carrick will continue to monitor the market as he looks to build a squad capable of competing at the top end of the Premier League.

Elsewhere at Old Trafford, defender Lisandro Martinez has backed 20-year-old Leny Yoro to become the cornerstone of United’s backline. The French centre-back, signed from Lille in 2024, delivered an assured performance in United’s Champions League victory over Sabah, drawing praise from his experienced team-mate.

“Amazing performance from Leny Yoro,” Martinez said after the match. “He played so well defensively, with the ball, being calm, being composed in every situation, one-vs-one. He’s the future of this club, honestly. And we have to help him, you know.”

Yoro has faced competition for a regular starting place since his arrival, but Martinez’s public endorsement signals a growing belief within the squad that the teenager is ready to anchor United’s defence for years to come.
