Borjas and Tsuruya set to clash in flyweight bout at UFC Shanghai on Aug. 29
Kevin Borjas and Rei Tsuruya have reportedly been added to UFC Fight Night 286 in Shanghai on August 29, per multiple reports, though the UFC is yet to confirm the flyweight matchup.
Kevin Borjas (11-5 MMA, 2-4 UFC) and Rei Tsuruya (11-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) have reportedly been booked for a flyweight bout at UFC Fight Night 286, scheduled for August 29 at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium. Multiple reports indicate the matchup is set, though the UFC has not yet officially confirmed the booking.
Borjas, a Dana White’s Contender Series signee from Peru, has found the going tough inside the Octagon, compiling a 2-4 promotional record. His most recent outing ended in a unanimous decision victory over Andre Lima, though the win was clouded by a missed weight.
Tsuruya arrived on the UFC roster through the Road to UFC pathway and made his promotional debut at UFC 303, defeating Carlos Hernandez by decision. The Japanese 125-pounder then suffered a setback against current flyweight champion Joshua Van before bouncing back with a first-round rear-naked choke finish of Luis Gurule, leaving him at 2-1 inside the Octagon.
The Fight Night card is headlined by a bantamweight clash between former title challenger Umar Nurmagomedov and China’s Yadong Song, a marquee matchup befitting the UFC’s return to the Chinese market.
