Bayern refuses to promise Olise extension despite Real Madrid interest

Bayern Munich cannot promise to keep Michael Olise beyond his current contract, admitted CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen in an interview with Sport1. The statement comes as the 24-year-old French international enjoys a remarkable start to the season: three goals and one assist in four matches.

When asked about the chances of Olise extending his deal, which runs until June 2029, Dreesen chose to be cautious. “Making promises in this business is a delicate matter. Whether we can keep him permanently is something we will discuss again this summer,” he said. The Munich executive had earlier in the interview stated that the club received no offers during the last summer transfer window, denying circulating rumours. “That simply wasn’t true. We had no offers on the table. Olise is incredibly important to this team. He’s a magician on the pitch,” he added.

According to L’Équipe, the former Crystal Palace player reportedly showed interest in a transfer to Real Madrid during the summer transfer window. Bayern categorically refused any discussion and is considering offering him the status of the squad’s highest-paid player, ahead of Harry Kane, to convince him to commit long-term.

On this latter point, Dreesen was notably more optimistic about extending the 33-year-old English striker’s contract, which expires in a year. “We have a relaxed relationship. It’s clear both parties want it,” he said, without specifying the intended duration.

The contrast between the serenity displayed around Kane and the reservations expressed about Olise highlights the complexity of the issue for the Bavarian executives, who will have to make a decision during the next summer transfer window.
