Namsrai Batbayar finished the Road to UFC Season 4 flyweight tournament final on Friday with a knee knockout over Yin Shuai, a finish that hinged on a precise reading of the grounded-fighter rule.

With Yin pinned awkwardly against the cage — one foot pointing almost vertically toward the ceiling and only one hand and one foot touching the mat — he did not meet the threshold to be classified as a grounded opponent. That made Batbayar’s knee to the face entirely legal, and it landed flush enough to end the contest.

Yin appeared to appeal to referee Jason Herzog the moment the knee connected, but Herzog correctly assessed the position and let the action continue. Batbayar followed up with a series of punches to seal the stoppage. Yin continued to protest after the bout was officially waved off, though the call was not in dispute.

The finish capped a dominant run through the tournament for Batbayar, who stopped all three of his opponents by knockout or submission without once going to a judges’ scorecard. The record is consistent with the broader pattern of his career: the Mongolian, now 10-1, has never heard a final bell across 11 professional fights.

Known as “Steppe Warrior,” Batbayar now earns a place on the UFC roster, where his finishing rate and willingness to engage should make him an immediate draw in the flyweight division.
