Barcola fit for Liverpool debut against Ipswich after deadline-day midfield frustration

Bradley Barcola is set to make his competitive Liverpool debut at Portman Road on Friday night, with manager Andoni Iraola confirming the French winger is fit and available for the Premier League clash against Ipswich Town.

“We are very happy with Bradley,” Iraola said ahead of the match. “It was our priority to sign a very good player in that position. I like the fact he wanted Liverpool a lot. He comes with the willingness to help us. He has trained and will be available for tomorrow.”

The news offers some relief after a turbulent end to Liverpool’s summer transfer window. The club agreed the sale of Curtis Jones to Inter Milan but saw late moves for midfield targets — including AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara — fall through before the deadline. Barcola, 24, joined Liverpool from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth approximately €45 million (£38m). He came through Olympique Lyonnais’ youth academy before a breakout 2022/23 season earned him the move to the French capital in August 2023. During three seasons at PSG, he won three consecutive Ligue 1 titles and played a central role in back-to-back UEFA Champions League triumphs in 2025 and 2026.

The winger’s direct, line-breaking style is expected to add dynamism to Iraola’s frontline immediately, even as concerns over midfield depth persist among supporters. With Jones departed and no replacement secured, Barcola’s availability at least gives the head coach a genuine attacking option to call upon as Liverpool look for their first league win of the season at Ipswich.
