Barcelona renew interest in Racing Santander's Jorge Salinas with €10m release clause
Barcelona are being linked for a second time with Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas, 19, whose release clause stands at €10m. The versatile left-back helped Racing win promotion to La Liga this season, contributing seven assists in 33 appearances.
Barcelona have renewed their interest in Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas, 19, according to local Cantabrian outlets Arco FM and Diario Montanes, with the teenager available for a release clause in the region of €10m.
Salinas first attracted Barcelona’s attention following their Copa del Rey meeting with Racing Santander, which the Blaugrana won 2-1, despite the defender not featuring in that fixture. The renewed reports mark the second time this year the club have been formally linked with the youngster, and come as Barcelona continue to assess their defensive options ahead of the summer window.
The 19-year-old is represented by Jorge Mendes, whose established relationship with Barcelona could prove a significant factor in any potential deal. Salinas is contracted to Racing until 2029, giving the Cantabrian club a firm negotiating position, though the €10m release clause provides a straightforward route to his signature.
Salinas operated predominantly at left-back during the 2024-25 season, making 33 appearances and registering seven assists as Racing Santander secured promotion back to La Liga. His output from a defensive position underlines the attacking quality he brings to the role.
At international level, Salinas has been deployed in central defence for Spain’s under-19 side, earning five caps and scoring twice. He is also set to represent La Roja at the under-19 European Championship this summer, further raising his profile ahead of what could be a pivotal transfer window.
Barcelona’s defensive recruitment has been complicated by the collapse of a proposed move for Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, a deal that stalled due to uncertainty on manager Hansi Flick’s side. With several backline positions unsettled heading into next season, the club have cast a wide net across defensive targets. Salinas, capable of playing both left-back and centre-back, fits the profile of a versatile, long-term option.
Racing Santander, now preparing for life back in La Liga, are likely to face competition for Salinas from multiple clubs if Barcelona do not move decisively.
