Australia to host New Zealand and Fiji in Sydney sevens double-header ahead of Wallabies-All Blacks Test

Rugby Australia has announced the inaugural Kick On 7s event at Woollahra Oval in Sydney on October 16, bringing together four of the world’s leading sevens nations the evening before a landmark quadruple-header at Accor Stadium.

HSBC SVNS World Championship winners Australia will face the Black Ferns Sevens — two-time Olympic gold medallists — in a women’s double-header, while the Australian men’s side takes on SVNS powerhouse Fiji across two preparation matches. Both contests are framed as build-up fixtures ahead of the 2027 SVNS Series and the Los Angeles Olympics.

The following day at Accor Stadium, the sevens sides will bookend a historic slate of matches that includes the Wallaroos hosting Scotland in a WXV Global Series Test and the Wallabies facing the All Blacks.

Rugby Australia has outlined plans for Wallabies, Wallaroos, and Australia Sevens players to attend Woollahra Oval on the Friday, meeting fans and running skills clinics from 4:00 pm before the sevens matches begin at 6:00 pm.

Australia Women’s Sevens head coach Reg Tayler welcomed the event, highlighting the significance of the rivalry. “Kick On 7s is a terrific initiative and the intimate setting of Woollahra Oval will allow fans a rare opportunity to experience first-hand the speed, skill and physicality of the Australian and New Zealand Sevens teams on their road to the Los Angeles Olympics,” he said. “Between us, Australia and the Black Ferns Sevens have won three Olympic gold medals, and many more world titles, and our rivalry takes us to all corners of the globe each year.”

On the men’s side, Australia ended a lengthy title drought during the 2026 campaign, with Henry Hutchison leading the Aussies to the SVNS Valladolid title as part of the World Championship Series. That momentum now carries into their October clash with Fiji.

Australia Men’s Sevens head coach Liam Barry said the match-up would be a spectacle for Australian rugby fans. “A Friday night double-header between our Aussie Men’s Sevens team and the two-time Olympic champions Fiji will no doubt be a wonderful spectacle and a great addition to the Australian Rugby calendar,” he said. “The Fijians are renowned throughout the rugby world for their flamboyancy and physicality.”

Australia and New Zealand have consistently been the top two sides in women’s sevens, meeting in most Cup Finals throughout last season, making the Woollahra Oval clash a genuine preview of what could unfold at the Los Angeles Olympics.
