Arsenal close in on £35m Tzolis deal as Rogers and Guimaraes targets remain live
Arsenal are set to complete a £35million signing of Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, which would make him the most expensive Greek player of all time. The Gunners are also pursuing Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers and Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes.
Arsenal are closing in on a £35million deal for Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, with the signing expected to be confirmed imminently and set to make the 24-year-old the most expensive Greek player in history. The move addresses a vacancy on the left wing created by Leandro Trossard’s expected departure to Besiktas.
Tzolis has been in prolific form for Club Brugge, scoring 43 goals across the past two seasons since joining the Belgian side from Norwich City in 2024. Mikel Arteta is expected to sanction the deal, which would represent Arsenal’s third signing of the summer.
Despite Tzolis’ imminent arrival, Arsenal’s ambitions in the transfer market do not stop there. The club are still pursuing Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers, who remains their top target. Villa have placed a £130million price tag on the 23-year-old England international and are reluctant to sell, but Arsenal’s interest has not cooled.
Arsenal are also set to intensify their pursuit of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who has reportedly asked to leave St James’ Park. The Brazilian international has long been linked with a move away from Newcastle, and Arsenal appear ready to test that interest with a formal approach.
Arteta has already bolstered his squad with two confirmed additions this summer. Defender Piero Hincapie has joined permanently from Bayer Leverkusen following a loan spell last season, while goalkeeper Ilian Meslier has arrived on a free transfer after leaving Leeds United, signing a two-year deal with the option of a further year.
Meslier was effusive upon completing his move. “I’m extremely happy. It’s a great day for me because I have just joined the champions,” the French goalkeeper said. “I cannot wait to show the love that I’ve got for this badge, and I cannot wait to win trophies with this team, because this is a club that needs to lift trophies again and again.”
Meslier also outlined his personal ambitions for the season ahead. “I want to start with the keepers, to show my levels, to continue to develop my skills, my ability. And then obviously to gain some game time, because this is what I missed last year.”
With Tzolis nearing completion and further targets firmly in their sights, Arsenal’s summer recruitment drive is shaping up to be one of the most active in recent memory.
