Arsenal agree deal for forward as Alvarez transfer timeline emerges after title win
Arsenal have agreed a deal for a forward as their summer transfer activity accelerates following a first Premier League title in 22 years. Julian Alvarez remains a top target, though the Argentine will not address his club future until after the World Cup concludes on July 19.
Arsenal’s summer transfer window is gathering momentum after a slow start, with the club having already secured two signings and now closing in on a third forward addition following their first Premier League title in 22 years.
Defender Piero Hincapie completed a permanent £34.5 million move from Bayer Leverkusen, while goalkeeper Ilan Meslier joined on a free transfer from Leeds United. Sporting director Andrea Berta, reportedly working with a transfer budget of around £250 million, is pushing to add further quality as Arsenal look to defend their title and compete across multiple fronts.
Leandro Trossard, who scored a crucial late winner against West Ham United in May during the title-winning campaign, is set to leave the club after three and a half years in north London, with a deal for a replacement forward understood to have been agreed.
Alvarez timeline takes shape
Julian Alvarez has emerged as one of Arsenal’s primary attacking targets, but the Gunners may need to wait. According to Argentine newspaper La Nacion, the Atletico Madrid forward has no intention of making a decision on his club future until after the World Cup, with the 26-year-old fully focused on representing Argentina in the tournament.
The report states Arsenal will step up their pursuit once the competition concludes, when Alvarez will be free to concentrate on his next move. That creates a tight window, with the expanded World Cup not finishing until July 19.
Barcelona are reportedly Alvarez’s preferred destination, but the La Liga champions are struggling to agree a fee with Atletico Madrid, who are holding firm over a €500 million (£426 million) release clause. Argentine outlet Clarin Deportivo reports that Arsenal are monitoring the situation closely and will position themselves as a serious alternative should Barcelona’s pursuit stall.
Arsenal have also been linked with Morgan Rogers, Bruno Guimaraes, and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. as Berta looks to build a squad capable of sustaining a title challenge and making a deeper run in European competition.
