Argentina has rejected Morocco’s invitation for a friendly match scheduled for October in Rabat, despite a financial offer of approximately one million dollars proposed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). The information was reported by Argentine journalist Verónica Brunati.

The FRMF had targeted the Albiceleste as a prestigious opponent for the next international break, continuing the rise of the Lions of the Atlas on the world stage. A confrontation against the reigning world champions would have also provided Mohamed Ouahbi with a first-rate benchmark to evaluate his squad.

According to Brunati, Argentina’s refusal would not be motivated by the quality of the opponent, but by the AFA’s desire to have its upcoming matches played in front of its own supporters. The Argentine Federation is still working on the details of its October gathering — opponents, dates and stadiums — and a trip to Morocco would not be among its priorities.

Morocco must therefore turn to other options to complete its preparation schedule. After a World Cup semi-final in 2022 and a quarter-final in 2026, the Moroccan national team intends to maintain the habit of facing top nations. A match against Argentina will have to wait for another opportunity.
