Anthony Gordon stuns Spanish media with goal and assist in England's 7-0 demolition of Croatia
Anthony Gordon scored and set up another as England crushed Croatia 7-0 in the UEFA Nations League in Rijeka, with Spanish outlets calling it a 'Gordon show' and praising the Barcelona winger's eight goal contributions in seven international appearances.
Anthony Gordon delivered another standout performance for England as Thomas Tuchel’s side dismantled Croatia 7-0 in the UEFA Nations League in Rijeka, prompting widespread admiration from Spanish football media for the Barcelona winger.
Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka each scored twice and contributed an assist, Jude Bellingham netted once and created three more, while Gordon added a goal and a key assist before substitute Morgan Rogers completed the rout. It was one of England’s most commanding victories in recent memory.
Gordon’s second-goal involvement drew particular attention from Spanish outlets. Receiving a cross from Saka, he produced a piece of control that Mundo Deportivo described as seeming “impossible”, turning sharply before laying the ball back to Bellingham, who finished into a near-empty net. SPORT, which has nicknamed Gordon “Antoni Gros” in Barcelona, wrote that he “pulled off a moment of magic” with “a precise left-footed ball to Bellingham.”
Gordon’s own goal came from a diving header at the far post to make it 3-0, after he had earlier missed a one-on-one opportunity. AS listed him as “one of the standout players” alongside Bellingham, while SPORT noted he had “tirelessly patrolled the left flank, leaving everyone in his wake” and praised his combination of dribbling, link-up play and end product.
The performance continued a rich vein of international form. SPORT highlighted that Gordon had now contributed to eight goals across his previous seven England appearances, having also scored against Spain and the Czech Republic in this campaign. “He has scored in his last three games and had the pleasure of assisting Bellingham for the second goal,” the publication noted, adding that the Nations League break offered him a chance to sharpen his finishing ahead of his return to club duties at Barcelona, where he is still searching for his first goal.
Mundo Deportivo summed up the night simply: “A Gordon show.”
