Mohamed Amoura delivered his best performance in an OGC Nice shirt on Sunday, directly influencing the Eagles’ victory over Lille (2-1) in the fifth round of Ligue 1.

The Algerian international, who arrived on loan from Wolfsburg on August 31, had until then alternated between discreet substitute appearances and uninspiring starts. Against the northern side, he changed his approach. From the 22nd minute, his shot from outside the right foot, deflected into his own net by defender Nathan Ngoy, opened the scoring — a goal not credited to Amoura, but created by him. He was not long in scoring his first official goal for Nice: sent through on goal by Gauthier Hein, he controlled the ball, eliminated the goalkeeper with a small hook in full stride and slotted the ball into the empty net with the inside of his foot. Complete control.

His first two Ligue 1 appearances — against Le Mans (1-1) and at Auxerre (1-0 defeat) — had not yet allowed the 25-year-old striker to fully express himself. The match against Lille changed that. L’Équipe, in its assessment of the transfer window after five rounds, praised his “activity, his reading of the game and his ability to be decisive,” also noting a budding understanding with Elye Wahi.

Amoura has now joined the Algerian national team for the first gathering under the direction of Brahim Hemdani. The Fennecs begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a home match against Zambia on September 25, before a trip to Burundi on September 29. The international window will conclude with a friendly match against Niger on October 6.
