44% of Manchester United fans already doubt Carrick after one win in seven league games
A poll of nearly 7,000 Manchester United supporters found that 44% are unconvinced Michael Carrick is the right man for the job, with the club having managed just one Premier League win from their opening seven matches.
Nearly 7,000 Manchester United supporters have delivered a damning verdict on head coach Michael Carrick, with 44% saying they are already not convinced he is the right man to lead the club forward after a difficult start to the season.
United have managed just one Premier League win from their first seven games — a return that has alarmed supporters who felt the fixture list offered a favourable opening run. A further 39% of those polled said they remain convinced by Carrick, while 17% are undecided.
The mood had threatened to turn decisively against the former England midfielder during the international break, before Matheus Cunha’s late goal salvaged a draw at Fulham in United’s final fixture before the pause. That result was enough to keep Carrick’s position stable for now, though it did little to ease the underlying anxiety among the fanbase.
The broader picture makes for uncomfortable reading at Old Trafford. United were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in the third round by Brighton, and their solitary bright spot has been a perfect record in the Champions League group stage. In the Premier League, however, they sit well short of where expectations placed them at the start of the campaign.
With a home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur now on the horizon, the pressure on Carrick to deliver a convincing performance — and result — is considerable. The poll figures suggest that a significant portion of the support has already begun to lose patience, and another setback could sharpen that sentiment further.
