Raul Rosas Jr. will headline a UFC card for the first time when he meets Raoni Barcelos in the main event of UFC Fight Night 289 on 26 September at Meta Apex in Las Vegas — a bantamweight matchup that pits one of the promotion’s most celebrated young prospects against a seasoned Brazilian veteran.

The bout carries a striking generational contrast: Rosas Jr. is 21 years old, while Barcelos is 39, leaving an 18-year age gap between the two headliners. Remarkably, it will also be the first UFC main event for either fighter.

Rosas Jr. (12-1) has been a focal point of UFC hype since winning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022. He went on to become the youngest fighter ever to earn a victory inside the Octagon and has since built a 6-1 promotional record. Known as “El Nino Problema”, he arrives on a five-fight winning streak and at a career-high level of visibility within the bantamweight division.

Barcelós (22-5) counters that youth with depth of experience. The 39-year-old has quietly assembled his own five-fight winning streak, with victories over Montel Jackson, Ricky Simon, Cody Garbrandt, and Payton Talbott — a run that has earned him his first top-billing opportunity after more than a decade competing at the highest level of the sport.

The matchup sets a compelling stylistic and narrative frame: Rosas Jr. looking to cement his status as a future title contender, Barcelos aiming to prove that experience and momentum can outweigh the generational gap. UFC Fight Night 289 takes place at Meta Apex in Las Vegas on 26 September.
