For the fifth time in its history, Algeria will participate in a World Cup, from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The Fennecs, coached by Vladimir Petkovic, compete in Group J alongside defending champion Argentina, Jordan and Austria.

The group stage schedule is already set: Algeria will open against Argentina on June 17, before facing Jordan on June 23, then Austria on June 28. To reach the knockout stage, the Greens must finish in the top two of their group or rank among the eight best third-place teams across the twelve groups in this 48-team World Cup.

If Algeria finishes first in Group J, they would face the runner-up of Group H, which comprises Spain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde. A second-place finish would instead send the Fennecs to challenge the leader of that same Group H.

Should Algeria qualify as the best third-place team, their potential Round of 16 opponents would be the winner of one of Groups B, D, G or K. Group B brings together Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland; Group D features the United States, Tunisia, Paraguay and Turkey; Group G pits Belgium, Egypt, Iran and New Zealand against each other; finally, Group K comprises Portugal, DR Congo, Uzbekistan and Colombia.

Regardless of the group stage outcome, Algeria would face top-tier opponents from the first knockout round, with potential matchups against Spain, the reigning European champions, or Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
