The tragedy occurred in the pool of a villa on the Costa Smeralda, where Trepy was with friends. According to Corriere della Sera, he was quickly rescued by those present before emergency services arrived.
A native of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges in Val-de-Marne, Trepy joined the Sardinian club to play in Italy’s top division at just 20 years old.
In a statement released Monday, Cagliari said it was “in constant contact with the medical facility and the player’s family.” “In these difficult moments, all our thoughts are with Yael and his family,” the club added, requesting “the utmost respect for their privacy” and promising to communicate any further information as soon as possible.
