World champion Norris commits to McLaren until 2030 with multi-year options beyond

Lando Norris has committed his future to McLaren until at least 2030, signing a long-term contract extension that deepens one of Formula 1’s most successful driver-team partnerships. The 26-year-old Briton announced the deal personally to staff at McLaren’s Woking factory during the team’s annual family and friends open day on Saturday.

Norris’s previous contract ran until the end of 2027, meaning the new agreement effectively adds a minimum of four years to his stay with the papaya squad. Multi-year options are included that could extend the relationship beyond 2030.

“McLaren is my home, and I’m very pleased to be signing a new contract to keep me with the team until at least 2030,” Norris said. “When I started this journey nine years ago, I was clear about the goals I wanted to achieve: to get McLaren back to the front and to win championships. We’ve achieved that goal, but we want more, we want to keep on winning, and we know as a team that we’re capable of achieving it.”

Norris secured his first world title with McLaren in 2025 and has carried that momentum into 2026, winning back-to-back grands prix in Hungary and the Netherlands after capitalising on the team’s latest car upgrades. He was also gifted his championship-winning 2025 car, the MCL39, as part of the announcement.

Team principal Andrea Stella described Norris as “an exceptional driver” who combines “outstanding natural speed with maturity, consistency and a strong commitment to McLaren.” Stella added that the extension provides “important continuity” and reinforces the team’s confidence in its long-term direction alongside team-mate Oscar Piastri, who is contracted until the end of 2028.

Norris first joined McLaren’s junior programme in 2017 before earning a race seat in 2019. In the seven seasons since, he has accumulated 13 grand prix victories, 18 pole positions, and 48 podiums — all for a single team, a loyalty increasingly rare at the front of the modern Formula 1 grid.
