Manchester United supporters have launched a coordinated online campaign targeting the club’s sponsors and commercial partners, escalating a long-running protest against the Glazer family and co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Several United-affiliated social media accounts announced the cyber protest on Tuesday evening under the hashtag #BoycottUnited, encouraging fans to leave negative reviews for partner companies, email their press offices, and post critical comments on their social media channels. A graphic listing United’s sponsors was circulated alongside the message: “You have a voice, no matter how small or big. Let your feelings be known to these companies via reviews and socials.”

The campaign’s most prominent target is Qualcomm Technologies, whose Snapdragon brand has appeared on the front of United’s shirts since the 2024/25 season. The California-based company is understood to be United’s biggest commercial partner, with the deal reported to be worth around £60 million per season. Snapdragon has already begun hiding replies from angry supporters beneath its social media posts.

The decision to direct pressure at sponsors reflects a growing frustration among a section of the fanbase who believe traditional matchday protests have failed to produce results. United supporters have demonstrated against the Glazers since their leveraged buyout of the club in 2005, and Ratcliffe has become an equally prominent target over the past 18 months.

The most recent organised demonstration, led by fan group The 1958, took place before the Manchester derby at Old Trafford and focused on the club’s handling of a controversial ticket-touting investigation. Police estimated around 500 fans attended, with more joining as the march moved along Sir Matt Busby Way toward the stadium.

Discontent has been further fuelled by United’s summer transfer activity. The club spent £150 million to sign Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba, with Karl Darlow added on a free transfer. However, no back-up left-back was recruited to cover for the injured Luke Shaw — who has already missed three matches — and a reserve striker was not identified as a priority. The outlay stands in stark contrast to rivals Manchester City, who led Premier League spending at £458 million, followed by Chelsea (£342.4m), Tottenham (£334m), and Newcastle (£275.2m).
