Uncapped Wilson and Lambert earn first Wallabies call-ups for November Nations Championship
Former Australia U20 captain Teddy Wilson and loosehead prop Tom Lambert have been named in a 33-man Wallabies squad for the November Nations Championship Tests, with both uncapped players in line for their international debuts on the upcoming UK tour.
Former Australia U20 captain Teddy Wilson and loosehead prop Tom Lambert have been handed their first Wallabies call-ups, with head coach Les Kiss naming both uncapped players in a 33-man squad for the November Nations Championship Tests in the United Kingdom.
Wilson captained Australia at the 2023 World Rugby Junior World Championship and has established himself as a consistent performer for the NSW Waratahs since then. The scrum-half made 14 appearances for the Waratahs during Super Rugby Pacific last season and followed that with further game time in Super Rugby AUS. He also played a role in Easts’ Shute Shield triumph on 5 September, lining up alongside Waratahs teammate Sid Harvey.
Lambert has earned his place on the back of strong showings for the Waratahs, though he will switch to the Queensland Reds next season after signing a two-year deal with the Brisbane franchise. The loosehead prop will look to make his mark on the international stage before that move takes effect.
Kiss made several notable omissions in finalising the squad. Former All Black turned Wallaby Aidan Ross was left out, along with Nick Champion de Crespigny, Toby Macpherson, Zane Nonggorr, Harry McLaughlin-Phillips, Jordan Petaia, and Kalani Thomas.
Fly-half Carter Gordon returns to the group after recovering from a leg injury, while second-rower Miles Amatosero has been recalled. Amatosero will first feature for a star-studded Australia A side against a USA XV in Nashville before linking up with the main touring party. The Wallabies are set to depart Australia for the UK next Saturday.
“There’s a real buzz among the squad as we prepare for what will be four incredibly demanding matches against high-quality opposition as part of the November Nations Championship Tests,” Kiss said. “As coaches, we’ve made some tough selection calls to keep building depth across the board and we know a tour like this will challenge the whole squad on many levels. This tour gives us another valuable opportunity to test new combinations, strengthen our existing connections and push our game forward in all areas.”
