Tuchel set to name England squad for four Nations League fixtures with Palmer expected to return
Thomas Tuchel will announce his England squad on Friday, September 18 for four UEFA Nations League matches against Spain, Croatia and the Czech Republic. Cole Palmer is reportedly in line for a recall, while several World Cup squad members face the axe.
Thomas Tuchel is set to name a 26 or 27-man England squad on Friday, September 18, for four UEFA Nations League fixtures against Spain, Croatia and the Czech Republic — the first time he will have reassembled his group since England’s World Cup exit against Argentina.
Cole Palmer is reportedly expected to return to the fold, with potential call-ups also on the cards for Rio Ngumoha and Alex Scott. Despite the extended three-week international window — which accommodates four matches rather than the usual two — Tuchel is not planning to significantly expand his selection. That approach contrasts sharply with Germany head coach Jurgen Klopp, who named a 44-man squad for the same period.
The announcement marks Tuchel’s first competitive squad selection since England were eliminated from the World Cup in the summer. His only previous large-scale call-up came in March, when he named 35 players for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan to give fringe candidates a final audition ahead of the tournament.
Several players who featured at the World Cup are understood to be at risk of missing out as Tuchel reshapes his squad around the Nations League campaign. The head coach is expected to release his squad via official England Football channels at 10am before addressing the media in a press conference shortly afterwards.
