Tottenham seal £185m double swoop as Chelsea bid rejected and Man Utd face Tchouameni blow
Tottenham have agreed deals worth £185m for Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, while Chelsea's opening offer for Pep Chavarria has been rejected by Rayo Vallecano. Manchester United's pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni could also collapse if Eduardo Camavinga joins Manchester City.
Tottenham have agreed deals to sign Mateus Fernandes for £85m and Sandro Tonali for £100m, making the north London club the biggest movers in the summer window so far. The two agreements form part of a wider week of business for Spurs that includes a marquee departure, with the total guaranteed outlay reaching £223.5m.
Manchester United’s hopes of landing Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni have been dealt a significant blow. According to MARCA, Real Madrid are in direct talks with Manchester City over a potential move for Eduardo Camavinga, with City reported to be evaluating the possibility of signing the 23-year-old after already agreeing a deal for Elliot Anderson. Should Camavinga leave the Bernabeu, it is considered unlikely that Tchouameni would also be sanctioned to depart for Old Trafford.
Camavinga himself is said to want to stay in Madrid and prove his worth, but his stance could yet change as the summer progresses.
Chelsea have had an opening offer for Rayo Vallecano winger Pep Chavarria rejected, with Spanish radio station El Partidazo de COPE reporting that the La Liga club are considering filing a complaint with FIFA over the approach. Club president Martin Presa has stated there have been no formal negotiations and that Chavarria carries a €50m (£42.3m) release clause. Chelsea have separately confirmed the signing of Marco Palestra as they continue to reshape their squad.
Arsenal and Liverpool are both tracking Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, though PSG consider him not for sale. Liverpool turned their attention to the Frenchman after Yan Diomande indicated a preference to join PSG if he leaves RB Leipzig this summer, with a decision on his future expected soon following Ivory Coast’s elimination from the World Cup. Arsenal, meanwhile, view Barcola as an alternative to Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. Barcola underlined his credentials earlier this week with a goal for France against Sweden.
