Tottenham Hotspur have agreed terms in principle with Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo in a deal reported to be worth around £60 million, with Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof stating that “all parties” consider the transfer “very realistic”. Voetbal International, Blaauwhof’s outlet, corroborated the report, citing an agreement in principle between the clubs.

Gakpo, 27, joined Liverpool in the January 2023 transfer window and has since won a Premier League title with the club, while also cementing his place as one of the Netherlands’ most prominent attackers. However, Liverpool’s reported pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola as a direct replacement, combined with the emergence of Victor Munoz and Rio Ngumoha at left-wing, has narrowed his path to regular first-team football at Anfield.

Blaauwhof has described Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi as wanting “Gakpo all the way” for his left-wing position, suggesting the Dutchman is a priority target rather than a contingency option. Spurs are also said to remain keen on Savinho, who could operate on the opposite flank.

The move would make Gakpo the second Liverpool player to join Tottenham this summer, following veteran full-back Andrew Robertson, who arrived on a free transfer after Spurs had previously attempted to sign him in the January window.

Tottenham have been active throughout this transfer window, adding Jan Paul van Hecke, Matheus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali to their squad. Despite those arrivals, the club’s attacking options remain a concern — Dominic Solanke has been hampered by persistent injury problems since joining, while Richarlison has endured inconsistent form. Gakpo’s arrival would go some way to addressing De Zerbi’s need for a reliable, high-quality wide forward.

Transfermarkt values Gakpo at €60 million, broadly in line with the reported fee.
