Topuria, Pereira and Gaethje all face six-month layoffs after UFC White House carnage
The California State Athletic Commission has handed 180-day suspensions to Ilia Topuria, Justin Gaethje and Alex Pereira following UFC White House, a card that produced seven knockouts across seven fights.
Ilia Topuria, Justin Gaethje and Alex Pereira have each been handed 180-day medical suspensions by the California State Athletic Commission following Sunday’s UFC White House card, which produced seven knockouts in as many fights. CSAC executive director Andy Foster, who served as a regulator for the event on behalf of the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports, released the full suspension list on Thursday.
Topuria and Gaethje headlined the night in what Foster’s office described as one of the most epic battles in recent memory. Gaethje won after battering Topuria with punches, closing both eyes and landing a knee to the body that prompted Topuria’s corner to stop the fight between rounds four and five. Topuria’s 180-day suspension can be lifted early with clearance from an oral and maxillofacial surgeon; he also carries a mandatory 60-day no-exception ban stemming from the knockout.
Gaethje left victorious but not unscathed. His 180-day suspension is contingent on physician clearance for a potential right wrist injury and an MRI on his left knee. He faces a separate mandatory 45-day rest period.
In the co-main event, Alex Pereira suffered a second-round knockout loss to Ciryl Gane in his heavyweight debut. Pereira received a 180-day suspension that requires clearance via a maxillofacial CT scan before he can return sooner, plus a mandatory 45-day suspension for the knockout.
The full suspension list from UFC White House is as follows:
