Topuria and Pereira defend titles at UFC White House on the South Lawn
UFC Freedom 250 takes place on the South Lawn of the White House, headlined by Ilia Topuria's lightweight unification defence against Justin Gaethje and Alex Pereira's interim heavyweight bout against Ciryl Gane.
Two title fights headline UFC Freedom 250 on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C., in what the promotion is billing as a once-in-a-lifetime setting for cage competition. Ilia Topuria defends in a lightweight unification bout against Justin Gaethje, while Alex Pereira meets Ciryl Gane in an interim heavyweight contest.
Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje
Topuria arrives at this fight in the middle of a generational run. He has knocked out future Hall of Famers Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway, and Charles Oliveira in consecutive bouts, and is widely considered at worst the second-best fighter in the world today. Though he built his early reputation as a grappler, Topuria has since established himself as one of the sport’s most dangerous punchers — technically sound, with sharp footwork and genuine knockout power he trusts completely.
His clearest path to victory may be reverting to his grappling roots. Gaethje has struggled badly when pinned beneath skilled wrestlers, and an early takedown attempt could short-circuit the challenger’s game plan entirely. Alternatively, Topuria can simply close the distance and let his power do the work against a battle-worn opponent, or look to time a counter over the top of Gaethje’s jab and low kicks.
Gaethje, for his part, is arguably the most exciting fighter to have competed in the UFC. The only man to hold two interim UFC titles, he has earned four Fights of the Year and a remarkable haul of post-fight bonuses. But an undisputed UFC title has eluded him throughout his career, and this is almost certainly his final realistic opportunity to claim one.
The challenge for Gaethje is that his greatest strength — his striking — can also become a liability. His low kicks rank among the most effective in the sport, and his jab is elite when he chooses to use it. The problem is that Gaethje frequently abandons his best weapons, falling into predictable patterns and leaning on toughness and raw power instead. Against the very best opponents, that tendency has cost him. A disciplined, technical kickboxing approach against Topuria carries its own risks, but abandoning structure entirely may prove even more dangerous.
Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane
The co-main event is an interim heavyweight title fight between Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane. Pereira, a former light heavyweight champion, is stepping up in weight for the contest, while Gane brings elite technical striking and movement that has made him one of the division’s most difficult opponents to engage cleanly.
The White House backdrop gives the entire card an unusual significance, but both main events carry genuine sporting stakes independent of the setting — a unification belt and an interim title that could shape the heavyweight division’s near future.
