SVNS sevens stars spread across Top 14 and Premiership as northern hemisphere season intensifies
Over 70 current and former sevens players are set to feature across the Top 14, Pro D2, and Premiership Rugby this weekend, with fixtures including a London Derby and Toulouse's swift turnaround after Champions Cup action.
More than 70 current and former SVNS Series players are scheduled to take the field across the Top 14, Pro D2, and Premiership Rugby this weekend, as the northern hemisphere club season enters a critical stretch and attention begins to shift toward upcoming sevens commitments.
Premiership Rugby — Round Four
Newcastle host Sale Sharks looking for their first win of the season. Simón Benítez Cruz has been a regular presence off the bench for the Red Bulls, who can also call on Zack Henry, Benjamín Elizalde, and Christian Wade. Sale, chasing a third victory to climb the table, are expected to lean on Fijians Ponepati Loganimasi and Elia Canakaivata, both of whom have already contributed in the early rounds.
On Saturday, Bristol Bears welcome Leicester Tigers to Ashton Gate. The Tigers sit mid-table but have a genuine opportunity to move up with a strong away performance. Matías Moroni and Max Pepper provided attacking spark on the right wing despite a recent loss to the Stormers, and both are likely to feature again.
Sunday’s standout fixture is the London Derby, with Harlequins hosting Saracens. The hosts are still searching for their first league win of the season and will look to Rodrigo Isgró, who impressed in their EPCR Challenge Cup tie against Vannes. Saracens are expected to deploy Lucio Cinti at outside centre as they look to consolidate their position in the top half of the table.
Top 14 — Round Seven
Toulouse and Pau lead the standings after six weeks, and both face testing fixtures. Toulouse host Perpignan fresh off a Champions Cup victory over Exeter Chiefs — a quick turnaround for a squad that includes cross-code stars Antoine Dupont and Teddy Thomas.
Perpignan make the trip with sevens options available in Théo Forner, Tavite Veredamu, Jefferson-Lee Joseph, and Jerónimo de la Fuente, giving their coaching staff plenty of attacking variety.
Pau travel to Toulon later in the day, where Olympic gold medallist Aaron Grandidier-Nkanang is expected to start. Toulon, for their part, are likely to deploy Ignacio Brex at outside centre after his strong showing against Racing 92 earlier in October.
The round closes with La Rochelle hosting Bordeaux, a fixture that adds further weight to what is shaping up as a busy and significant weekend across the northern hemisphere’s top competitions.
