Sean Strickland has escalated his public standoff with the UFC over fighter pay, announcing he will refuse to compete until his contract situation is resolved. The middleweight champion made the declaration on social media, a day after first airing his grievances over compensation and floating the idea of fighting out his current deal before leaving the promotion.

“I will not fight or sign any contract until I get this figured out,” Strickland wrote. “Hopefully we get it figured out soon. Thanks for all your support it helps!”

The dispute has been simmering since September, when Strickland began publicly expressing dissatisfaction with his pay during negotiations for a title defense against Nassourdine Imavov. No resolution has been announced, and Strickland’s latest statement suggests the two sides remain far apart.

Strickland reclaimed the 185-pound title on the back of a two-fight winning streak, finishing Anthony Hernandez before edging Khamzat Chimaev in a closely contested rematch. Despite holding the belt, he has indicated he is willing to walk away from the middleweight division entirely to force the issue.

In a separate post earlier this week, Strickland floated the idea of dropping to the light heavyweight division to complete his existing contract obligations before departing the UFC altogether. “Contemplating just going to 205, knocking out my contract and scrapping with Jake Paul,” he wrote on Wednesday. “That sounds fun.”

Whether the threat is a genuine negotiating tactic or a reflection of deeper frustration, the standoff leaves the UFC’s middleweight title picture in a state of uncertainty. A resolution will need to be reached before any defense against Imavov can be scheduled.
