Sean Sharaf floors Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson with one punch in 12 seconds at UFC 331
Sean Sharaf delivered one of the most shocking knockouts in UFC history on Saturday, dropping Gable Steveson — a 2020 Olympic gold medalist and Jon Jones protégé — with a single left hook just 12 seconds into the first round at UFC 331.
Sean Sharaf stopped Gable Steveson with a single left hook 12 seconds into the opening round at UFC 331 on Saturday, producing one of the most stunning upsets in the promotion’s history. Steveson, a 2020 Olympic gold medalist and protégé of UFC legend Jon Jones, crumpled to the canvas before referee Frank Trigg could intervene.
Sharaf wasted no time, charging at Steveson from the opening bell and landing the fight-ending blow with only his second punch of the contest. The left hook snapped Steveson’s head back and sent him down hard, leaving Trigg no choice but to wave it off immediately.
“I’m not surprised, motherf*ckers,” Sharaf shouted in the octagon after the finish. “I feel amazing. I work so hard. I believed in myself when no one believed in myself. That’s it. I know I got the power. I’ve just got to believe in myself.”
Sharaf entered the fight as a heavy underdog against Steveson, whose amateur wrestling pedigree and high-profile association with Jones had positioned him as one of the UFC’s most anticipated prospects. None of that appeared to weigh on Sharaf, who had been aggressive in the build-up to the bout and carried that same energy into the octagon.
Steveson left the octagon quickly after the stoppage. The loss drops him to 4-1 in his MMA career, while Sharaf’s record improves to reflect a victory that will be difficult to forget.
