Rosas Jr. targets UFC title as youngest-ever signee faces first five-round test at Vegas 121

Raul Rosas Jr. will headline UFC Vegas 121 against Raoni Barcelos on September 26 at the Apex in Las Vegas, stepping into a five-round main event for the first time in his career and framing the challenge as a direct stepping stone toward a UFC title fight.

Rosas Jr., who became the youngest fighter ever signed by the UFC when he joined the promotion at 17 in 2022, is currently riding a five-fight winning streak that includes a decision victory over Rob Font. His only career defeat came against Christian Rodriguez, and he has been dominant since, building the kind of momentum that has put championship conversations within reach.

“It’s different managing a five-round fight for sure,” Rosas Jr. said. “And I’m excited to go in there for the first time for five rounds. It makes me more excited if it does go to the fourth and fifth round. Because I’m starting to get used to this as the championship fights are coming [closer]… I want to have five rounds to try to finish him ‘cause he is hard to finish. Even when he gets dropped, he gets back up. So, I’m excited to go in there and try it myself.”

The extended format presents a genuine test. Barcelos is a seasoned Brazilian veteran who has been finished only twice across his entire career — once by knockout and once by submission — making him one of the more durable opponents Rosas Jr. has faced. Barcelos also arrives on a five-fight winning streak of his own, with notable upset victories over Payton Talbott and Montel Jackson cementing his reputation as a dangerous spoiler.

For Rosas Jr., the appeal of the longer format is as much strategic as it is physical. Surviving and performing in rounds four and five is precisely the kind of experience he believes will sharpen him for championship-level competition, where five rounds are the standard. At 20 years old, he is already thinking in those terms — and UFC Vegas 121 is where that preparation begins in earnest.
