Ringrose ruled out of Ireland's Nations Championship matches with hamstring injury
Garry Ringrose is unlikely to feature in Ireland's upcoming Nations Championship fixtures against Argentina, Fiji and South Africa after the IRFU confirmed the Leinster centre is sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Garry Ringrose has been ruled out of Ireland’s Nations Championship matches against Argentina, Fiji and South Africa in Dublin, the IRFU confirmed, with the 31-year-old centre set to continue his rehabilitation with Leinster.
The experienced midfielder, who has scored 15 tries in 75 caps and started eight of Ireland’s last nine Tests, picked up a hamstring injury that has prompted an unusually downbeat assessment from the union. No replacement call-up is planned at this stage.
Ireland are also monitoring two further absentees from the same squad. Jimmy O’Brien sustained a concussion during Leinster’s 24-18 comeback win over Munster on Saturday and will follow a graduated return-to-play protocol, with the aim of resuming full training later this week. Sam Prendergast, who missed that interprovincial clash with a wrist issue, is also progressing through rehabilitation in camp.
With Ringrose unavailable, Bundee Aki and Robbie Henshaw are expected to compete with Stuart McCloskey for the two midfield berths. Ulster’s new signing Jamie Benson offers an additional option, though the versatile back has yet to earn a senior cap and predominantly operates at fly-half.
