Rennes sign Gonçalo Oliveira for €2.5m, third signing in three days
Stade Rennais have secured 19-year-old centre-back Gonçalo Oliveira from Benfica for €2.5 million, their third transfer since the summer window opened.
Stade Rennais have reached an agreement with Benfica for the transfer of Gonçalo Oliveira, a left-footed 19-year-old centre-back, for an estimated €2.5 million. The player has signed a five-year contract with the Breton club, according to Le Parisien.
This arrival comes just three days after the official opening of the summer transfer window, making Gonçalo Oliveira Rennes’ third recruit of the transfer window. The young Portuguese player, who was captain of Benfica’s reserve team, joins Adrien Thomasson, who arrived on a free transfer from Lens, and Issa Soumaré, signed without compensation from Le Havre.
Regarded as one of the great prospects of Portuguese football in his position, Oliveira brings Rennes a rare profile of a left-footed centre-back on the market. At 19, he has committed for five seasons, demonstrating the confidence placed in him by the Breton club’s management.
With three recruits secured in the space of a few days, Stade Rennais are showing particularly sustained transfer activity at the start of summer, combining free arrivals and targeted investment to strengthen their defensive line.
