PSG's £116m Barcola valuation deals Liverpool a blow as Diomande pursuit fades
Liverpool's hopes of signing PSG winger Bradley Barcola have been dealt a significant setback, with Paris Saint-Germain placing a £116m price tag on the 23-year-old and insisting he is not for sale this summer.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has hit a major obstacle, with PSG reportedly valuing the France international at more than £116m and showing no willingness to sell him this summer.
The figure — matching the reported fee Manchester City are set to pay Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson — effectively prices Barcola out of reach for most clubs. According to The Athletic, PSG are intent on keeping the 23-year-old at the Parc des Princes despite his contract, which runs until 2028, not currently being extended.
The news compounds a difficult week for Liverpool in the transfer market. RB Leipzig midfielder Yan Diomande, widely considered the club’s primary summer target, has reportedly indicated a preference to join PSG, with the Champions League winners now emerging as frontrunners to sign the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international. Liverpool had signalled a readiness to pay up to £86m for Diomande before PSG’s involvement accelerated.
New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, confirmed as Arne Slot’s successor earlier this month, is navigating a significant squad rebuild. The club lost Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate on free transfers at the end of last season, making reinforcements across multiple positions a priority.
With both Barcola and Diomande looking increasingly unlikely, Liverpool have already identified fallback options in the wide forward and midfield positions. Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, FC Köln’s Said El Mala and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo have all been mentioned as alternatives, though no concrete moves for any of the three have been reported.
One piece of business has been completed under Iraola, with midfielder Victor Munoz joining permanently from Osasuna for a fee understood to be around £34.5m.
