Pogba hopes Man United reclaim two Premier League titles after Man City found guilty
Paul Pogba has responded to Manchester City being found guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules on 114 occasions, saying he hopes United could be awarded two titles he finished runner-up for during City's offending period.
Paul Pogba has expressed hope that Manchester United could be retrospectively awarded Premier League titles following Manchester City’s guilty verdict on 114 counts of financial rule breaches, covering the period from 2009 to 2018.
The former United midfielder was asked about the verdict on the sidelines of the Singapore Grand Prix, where he offered a candid take. “I have nothing to say, to be honest. I just hope it doesn’t affect the Premier League and hopefully we can get two titles back,” Pogba said.
City were found guilty by an independent commission of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules on 114 separate occasions across that nine-year window. The club have since appealed the verdict, while their rivals await confirmation of the punishment, which could range from a fine to a points deduction or, at the most severe end, expulsion.
Pogba’s comment carries personal weight. During his time at Old Trafford, he twice finished as runner-up in the Premier League — first in the 2017/18 season under José Mourinho, and again in 2020/21 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Of those two campaigns, only the 2017/18 title race falls within City’s offending period, though Pogba referenced two titles in his remarks.
The Frenchman never won the Premier League during his spell at United, making the prospect of a retrospective award a particularly pointed one for him personally. Whether any title redistribution forms part of City’s eventual punishment remains entirely speculative at this stage, with the appeals process still ongoing.
