Pio Esposito set to sign Inter Milan extension, ending Man United's pursuit

Inter Milan striker Pio Esposito is set to commit his future to the San Siro club on a long-term deal, closing the door on a potential move to Manchester United that had been the subject of speculation throughout the summer transfer window.

According to reports from Sky Sports Italy, Esposito is expected to sign a new contract running until the summer of 2032. The deal would see the 21-year-old earn an annual salary of €2.5 million (£2.14 million), with performance-related bonuses capable of lifting that figure to €3 million (£2.57 million) per year — roughly £50,000 per week. Over the full six-year term, the agreement could be worth approximately £15 million to the striker.

Esposito had attracted attention from United after a productive 2024-25 campaign in which he scored 10 goals across all competitions for Inter. He has continued that form into the new season, already netting once in two Serie A appearances. United had been linked with the Italy international as they looked to bolster their attacking options, though no formal move materialised.

United did significantly reshape their forward line during the previous summer window, bringing in Bryan Mbeumo, Mateus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. This summer, however, the club’s transfer activity has been concentrated elsewhere, with Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow, Carlos Baleba and Tynan Thompson — signed from Tottenham Hotspur — all joining ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League under Michael Carrick.

With Esposito now poised to extend his stay at Inter, United’s attention in the final days of the window appears focused on other positions. The club has been linked with a new left-back and is reportedly working on a deal to sign Leicester City midfielder Louis Page before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.
