OM targets Mohamed Amoura on loan despite Italian and Saudi competition

Olympique de Marseille has identified Mohamed Amoura as a target for this summer’s transfer window, according to L’Équipe. The Algerian international (47 caps, 19 goals), under contract with Wolfsburg following the club’s relegation to the German second division, would be available on loan.

With 8 goals and 4 assists last season in the Bundesliga, Amoura delivered a solid record despite his team’s drop. His profile has attracted interest well beyond Marseille: Italian clubs, Saudi Pro League sides and Schalke 04 are also reportedly positioned on the deal, complicating matters for Marseille’s sporting director Grégory Lorenzi.

The latter is operating in a constrained financial context. Before finalizing any signings, OM must further reduce its wage bill and balance its accounts by selling players before the close of the summer transfer window. The loan formula, less costly than an outright transfer, fits precisely with this budget-balancing logic.
