Olise secures German Super Cup for Bayern with goal and assist
Named man of the match against Dortmund (2-1), Michael Olise scored and provided an assist on Saturday in the German Super Cup, responding to Real Madrid departure rumors with a convincing first official outing.
Michael Olise made a thunderous start for Bayern Munich on Saturday evening at Signal Iduna Park. The French international was named man of the match in the German Super Cup after guiding the Bavarians to a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund, with a goal and an assist to his name.
Olise first set his side on their way by perfectly serving Nathaniel Brown for the opening goal in the 28th minute, before doubling the lead himself in first-half stoppage time. Omnipresent on his right flank, he also drew several fouls and corners throughout the match, displaying solid fitness for this first official game of the season. His performance earned him 46% of the votes for player of the match.
This display comes after a mixed summer with the French national team. Olise had started the 2026 World Cup in fine form, notably with two assists against Sweden, but his influence gradually waned as the competition progressed. In the semi-final against Spain, then in the third-place playoff lost to England (4-6), the Bayern player struggled to influence the game, reflecting a France side that finished the tournament without a title.
Following the World Cup, rumors of a desire to join Real Madrid had emerged, causing unease with the Bavarian leadership, which remained unmoved. The contrast is all the more striking: where Olise had seemed to lose his influence toward the end of the international competition, he immediately reclaimed his role as technical leader in Bayern colors. A strong signal, just days before the Bundesliga kicks off.
