Olise finds his spark against Leipzig and reaches 100 goal contributions with Bayern
Scorer and provider of an assist during Bayern Munich's demolition of RB Leipzig (6-1) on Saturday in the Bundesliga, Michael Olise has crossed the symbolic threshold of 100 goal contributions in two seasons with the Munich club.
Michael Olise delivered a standout performance on Saturday in the Bundesliga, contributing to Bayern Munich’s offensive masterclass against RB Leipzig (6-1) with a goal and an assist. The victory allows the German champions to draw level with Dortmund at the top of the table.
After two outings without making an impact on the scoreline — a draw against Augsburg (2-2) in the Bundesliga and another against Viking Stavanger (3-3) in the Ligue des Champions, when Vincent Kompany substituted him in the 73rd minute — the French attacking midfielder rediscovered his best form at the perfect moment.
Luis Diaz opened the scoring as early as the 12th minute before setting up Aleksandar Pavlovic for the 2-0 (26th). It was then Harry Kane who found Olise in space, and the London-born player finished with a left-footed cross shot for the 3-0 (34th). In the second half, Olise set up Diaz for the Spaniard’s hat-trick (47th, 67th), while Kane added a fifth goal (53rd).
This weekend marks a symbolic milestone in Olise’s career in Bayern colours: with this goal and assist, he now totals exactly 100 goal contributions — 51 goals and 49 assists — in just two seasons. The former Crystal Palace player completed his first year at Munich with a tally of 20 goals and 23 assists, before following up with 22 goals and 31 assists in the following campaign. Figures that have no equivalent at the highest level over such a short period.
Olise had already shone a few days earlier in the colours of the French national team under Zinédine Zidane, with three goals and two assists. The return to club competition promised to be more laborious; the 6-1 scoreline against Leipzig has dispelled any doubts.
