Norris signs McLaren deal until 2030 and keeps his championship-winning car

Lando Norris has committed his future to McLaren until at least the end of 2030, with the reigning Formula 1 world champion also receiving his championship-winning MCL39 chassis as part of the new deal. The 26-year-old, who secured his maiden drivers’ title in 2025, has now been with the Woking outfit since his debut in 2019.

Norris has made 163 grand prix starts for McLaren — more than any other driver in the team’s history — and has accumulated 13 wins, 48 podiums, 18 pole positions, 20 fastest laps and 1,589 career points across that spell.

The inclusion of the MCL39 chassis in the contract terms quickly became the most-discussed element among fans online. “This is such a beautiful gesture from McLaren to give Lando the championship-winning car,” one supporter wrote on Reddit. “Well-deserved extension with the loyalty he’s given them from the very beginning and paid off well with the title last year.”

The comparison to Jenson Button’s post-2009 trajectory also surfaced in the discussion. “Well deserved. I hope this comes with a big salary increase because he’s been one of the best drivers on the grid this season and has a title. He literally reminds me of Button after 2009 but with a higher skill ceiling,” one user posted.

Norris has continued to perform strongly in the current season despite McLaren suffering reliability issues earlier in the year, reinforcing the team’s confidence in building their long-term future around him. With the extension running to at least 2030, the Briton is on course to spend the entirety of his Formula 1 career to date — and potentially beyond — at a single constructor.
