Neville brands United's second-half start worst 15 minutes he has ever seen after Fulham goal

Gary Neville delivered a scathing verdict on Manchester United after Fulham scored a calamitous second-half goal, declaring it “the worst 15 minutes I’ve ever seen” the club play.

Fulham’s opener stemmed from a chain of errors that began when Matheus Cunha was easily dispossessed by Calvin Bassey. The Fulham defender drove forward and forced a save from goalkeeper Senne Lammens, but the trouble was only just beginning. Lisandro Martinez tapped the rebound back to Lammens, who appeared caught between using his foot and his hand — and by the time he committed, the ball had trickled over the line.

Neville, commentating on the match, did not hold back. “I’ve watched Manchester United since the age of five and that’s the worst 15 minutes I’ve ever seen them play,” he said. “Absolutely pathetic. They have walked for 15 minutes and you get what you deserve in a football match.”

As the camera cut to former United captain Michael Carrick watching on, Neville added: “Maybe there will be a reaction but I’ve never seen a lack of effort for 15-20 minutes like I have just seen there. What must he be thinking? He probably cannot believe what he has watched in that last 15 or 20 minutes. He’s got to act now.”

Former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison was equally damning in his assessment. “Brilliant defending from Bassey, Cunha not strong enough, and Bassey drives forward,” he said. “It’s an easy save for Lammens to make and he makes a mess of it, he puts it back into Martinez and I don’t know what Martinez is doing — he sticks a foot out and it trickles over the line. Poor all around, poor from Cunha, poor from Lammens not sorting his feet out.”

The goal encapsulated a dismal spell from United, with multiple players at fault across the sequence and no apparent urgency in their defensive shape or pressing.
