Iliman Ndiaye has been handed an immediate start for Manchester City in their Premier League fixture against Coventry City, while fellow new winger Allan is absent from the squad entirely as he works back to fitness.

Ndiaye completed a deadline-day move from Everton for £65m and lines up alongside Elliot Anderson as one of two summer signings in the starting XI. Enzo Fernandez, who joined from Chelsea, begins on the bench alongside Ayyoub Bouaddi and goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

Allan, signed from Palmeiras for £35m in the final weeks of the transfer window, has not been included in the matchday squad and is not yet fit enough to feature. The forward has, however, been named in City’s Champions League squad for their opening eight games in the competition, meaning he could travel with the team to Porto next week.

Ndiaye, Fernandez, and Bouaddi will all be eyeing a place in that European trip after getting their first taste of action against Coventry.

Victory for City would keep them top of the Premier League for at least a few more hours. They are one of just four sides to have won their opening two games of the season, with Hull City, Chelsea, and Arsenal all kicking off later in the weekend. Chelsea and Arsenal meet each other at the Emirates on Sunday in an early top-of-the-table clash.

The Champions League is already looming large for City, with the Porto fixture representing one of their tougher early draws in the competition. After that European assignment, attention will quickly turn to the first Manchester derby of the season.
