Musiala back in training after collapsing twice with neurological condition in pre-season

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Jamal Musiala is back in training and responding well to treatment, after the Germany international collapsed in two separate pre-season fixtures. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder fell to the ground during Bayern’s clash with RB Leipzig on 15 August, then collapsed again three days later as a second-half substitute in the away game against Heidenheim.

In both incidents, teammates formed a protective circle around Musiala while medical staff attended to him before he was helped off the pitch. The scenes prompted widespread concern among supporters and the wider football community.

Musiala subsequently addressed the situation publicly via Instagram, revealing he had been diagnosed with absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction. He described the condition as “temporary and easily treatable” and sought to reassure fans directly.

“First things first – I’m doing well,” he wrote. “I understand that many of you are worried. Today, I’d like to put your minds at ease and explain the situation a little: I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary but readily treatable absences, which are caused by a neurological dysfunction.”

The Bayern star added that the episodes, while alarming to observers, were currently part of his everyday life and that he was receiving the best possible medical care. He stressed that specialists had confirmed there was no further health risk beyond the diagnosed condition.

Crucially, Musiala said the decision to continue playing football was his own, made in close consultation with neurological specialists who approved his return. “It was my personal wish to face this challenge and, with the approval of the neurological specialists, to continue doing what helps me most in my recovery: simply getting on with my everyday life and continuing to pursue my passion of playing football,” he wrote.

Bayern Munich have backed the player throughout, with Musiala noting that the club and those close to him were “always by my side” during the process. The Bundesliga champions have not placed a timeline on his return to competitive action, but the confirmation that he is back in training will be a significant relief ahead of the new season.
